Most Service Sites Take 42 Hours to Answer a Lead. 23% Never Reply

Local Launch · Sep 2026 · 4 min read

Direct answer: the form is not the finish line. Foundgrove (May 12, 2026) says a typical service-business site converts only 1–2% of visitors into leads. The same piece cites research putting average web-lead response at 42 hours, with 23% never responding at all. Unbounce’s landing-page median sits near 6.6%. So even when a Greenville homeowner fills the form, almost a day and a half can pass before anyone calls back — if anyone does.

That is the quiet leak. Your Maps rivals already have websites. Speed to the phone is what still separates shops.

Greenville pressure washing is already fully sited

Our September 15, 2026 Maps pull for Greenville-area pressure washing returned 20 of 20 page-one results with a live website. Leaders on that pull included C3 Wash Pros (5★ / 478 reviews), A Magic Touch (5★ / 137), EcoClean (5★ / 127), and Parker’s in Simpsonville (4.9★ / 144). Every one had a .com.

Same pattern we saw earlier for HVAC: on September 10, 0 of 20 Greenville HVAC page-one shops had no website. Having a domain is table stakes in crowded Upstate trades. The next fight is who answers first.

42 hours is how you lose a driveway job

A Mauldin homeowner who needs the driveway cleaned before guests arrive will not wait two days. They hit the next shop on the list. Or they call the number still sticky on their phone from last year.

Foundgrove’s stack for closing the 1–2% gap is not “prettier design.” It is Core Web Vitals, a short form, and human trust signals (reviews, real photos, clear contact). Then someone has to pick up the lead.

If your site loads fine but the inbox sits overnight, you paid for traffic you will not close.

Quick test: submit a test lead on your own form at 9am. If nobody calls or texts back the same morning, the site is not the whole problem.

What “fast response” looks like on a trade site

Keep it boring and local:

  1. Sticky click-to-call on mobile — thumb hits the number without scrolling a novel.
  2. Short form — name, phone, one job note. Foundgrove and the trade-site conversion numbers both punish long forms.
  3. Same-day reply rule — under an hour is better; same morning beats “we’ll get back to you.”
  4. Text or call preference noted on the form so the first reply matches how the customer wants to talk.
  5. After-hours coverage — voicemail alone still loses. An AI receptionist or a shared on-call phone stops the 23% “never reply” bucket from eating jobs in Greer and Fountain Inn at 8pm.

None of that needs a five-figure redesign. It needs a path from form submit to a human voice.

What builds still cost in 2026

National guides still put professional lead-gen sites well above a DIY monthly fee:

Saluda Digital's published pricing page lists $1,750 one-time for a website build, $550–$725/mo for Google Maps marketing, and $950/mo for core SEO (saludadigital.com/pricing) — a different service model than ours.

You do not need that stack to answer leads faster. You need a fast page, a short form, and a reply habit.

What Local Launch ships

We keep the offer simple for Upstate trades:

Day-one builds put click-to-call and a short quote path up front so the lead is easy to catch. Care keeps the profile and review velocity moving. The receptionist covers the hours you cannot sit on the phone.

One-time-only is always on the table. If you already have a modern site that just sits on leads, Care plus call coverage is the first touch. No site or a dead outdated one gets the rebuild first.

Bottom line

Foundgrove’s numbers are blunt: 1–2% typical conversion, 42-hour average response, 23% never reply, against a landing median near 6.6%. Greenville pressure washing page one is already 20/20 sited. HVAC was already fully sited on our September 10 pull. In those trades the brochure is not the bottleneck. Speed to the phone is.

Answer faster than the next shop on Maps. That is the job.
